The Lake District may well be the best area in the country for Mountain Leader training & assessment courses. Our training courses are all run in the Spring and Autumn when the days are shorter and the nights are longer. We do this primarily to ensure that your night navigation sessions are a genuine and worthwhile experience, rather than in the summer when it is only dark for 3 hours! We also run our courses over split weekends, which allows you to more time to think about what you have learned. Our keen and experienced tutors know how to provide the best learning opportunities for you.
Our training course follows the MT summer ML syllabus. We will cover the skills and techniques required to lead groups in the British hills and mountains in summer conditions. A series of interactive evening sessions combined with practical day time sessions, an overnight camp and a night navigation session will form your 6 day course. We do have tents and other equipment for you to borrow if need be, although most people use their own.
Before attending a training course you must register with your home nation mountain training board. In order to register you must have at least twelve months mountain walking experience and a minimum of 20 logged mountain days, be at least 18 years old and be a member of one of the Mountaineering Councils. You can register by clicking here http://www.mountain-training.org/walking/skills-and-awards/mountain-leader.
The cost of a course includes all instruction and transport during the course. Accommodation is available nearby in a variety of accommodation types. Collection and drop off at Ulverston train station may be possible.
Please note this is a non residential course. The cost of the course is £305
